Religious poems.
Scope and Contents
The contents of the manuscript are as follows:
(i) Poem beginning `I have this while as prissoner closse.’ It refers to the Five Mile Act of 1665, aimed at non-conformist ministers. The title `A Song for this sad tyme* follows the prologue (folio 1).
(ii) Two poems, written in another hand, beginning `For truth and matters worth here`s a propine’ (folio 17) and `Sure we shall sing a sweeter Song’ (folio 26). The name Master Thomas Melvill appears at the beginning of the first.
