Collection of material on French heraldry, in several hands of the first half of the 18th century.
Scope and Contents
The collection has been attributed to a member of the Chevillard family of French genealogists.
Contents.
(i) Engravings of ecclesiastical arms, painted over in watercolours (folio 1).
(ii) Watercolour drawings of crowns (folio 2).
(iii) Genealogies, with the arms in colour, of the families of de Ligne, de la Marck, Clermont and others (folio 7). The latest date given is the marriage of Joseph M L de Halencourt in 1726. The pages have been bound in the wrong order; a note giving the correct order has been pasted inside the front cover.
(iv) Quarterings of Agnes de Bourgogne, Countess of Anjou (folio 75).
(v) `Genealogie de la Maison de Melun` (folio 77). It covers the period from the late 10th century to the death of Louis, Prince d`Epinay, in 1724.
(vi) Painted armorial bearings of thirty-two French ladies, many of whom married into the La Chasteignier family of La Rocheposay (folio 111).
(vii) Quarterings of the early Duchesses of Lorraine (folio 115).
(viii) Miscellaneous insertions, 1750, and undated (folio 121). They include a genealogy on vellum, with armorial bearings, of Jean-Léger Masson, seigneur d`Authume (folio 125).

Custodial History
The volume contains the bookplate of J F Schmillentzky. A cutting from a 19th century bookseller`s catalogue is pasted inside the front cover. The lot number 372 appears on the binding.
