Miscellaneous personal and political correspondence of Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, and Robert Saunders Dundas, 2nd Viscount.
Scope and Contents
The letters are largely concerned with applications for patronage, and home (especially Scottish) politics. Individual correspondents include: William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster, Lord President Charles Hope, Lord Chief Commissioner William Adam and the 4th Duke of Atholl. Among the draft letters and papers of the 1st Viscount are: several memoranda on patronage matters addressed to William Pitt, 1799-1800, drafts of letters to the Duke of Portland, 1806, and Spencer Perceval, 1810, and an estimate of the voting allegiances of Scottish Members of Parliament, 1802.
