Music notebook.
Scope and Contents
The notebook contains:
notes on musical theory (folios 1-12 verso, 32 verso-33);
the common psalms tunes as in the psalter of 1625 with the addition of ‘Newtoun’, all in four parts (folios 13-25);
the proper tunes to psalms 119, 136 and 25, church part only (folios 27v.-29v.); and,
the song `Gather your rosebuds`, attributed to William Lawes (folios 30-31).

Custodial History
Bought by the Advocates` Library, 1828, at the sale of David Constable’s books, lot 2905. The manuscript appears to have belonged at different times to Andrew Gardiner, John Watson of Ayr, and Helen Ferguson, whose names appear on folios 5 verso, 9 verso, and 34 respectively.

Presented, 1925, by the Faculty of Advocates to the nation on the foundation of the National Library of Scotland.
