Letter of Mary Moffat
Scope and Contents
Letter, 1846, of Mary Moffat to her brother`s widow.
The letter was written in Kuruman, Africa, where Mary Moffat was stationed with her husband Robert Moffat, missionary. The Moffats` eldest daughter, Mary, had married David Livingstone at Kuruman in 1845, and this letter refers to the birth of David and Mary Livingstone`s son, their first child, six months earlier, and notes the new station Livingstone is establishing. Brief reference is made to Mary Moffat`s feelings about her daughter`s husband in the letter. It also offers news of Robert Moffat, and other members of the Moffat family.
