Custodial History
According to a note written in an eighteenth-century hand on folio 1 verso, 'This is, certainly, the presentation copy to the person to whom the author addressed his work, and, probably, the title page is of his hand-writing ...'. On the same page, in a different hand, is written 'Maria Levingston Aught This book'. There is an eighteenth-century book-plate of Burnett of Kemnay, and one, dated 1946, of John Hely-Hutchinson.
The manuscript was bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.
