Song texts and tunes., ca. 1928-ca. 1980
Scope and Contents
A folder containing mainly loose material. Most of it is undated, but was probably written between 1960 and 1980. The contents are as follows:
Copy of Marjorie Kennedy-Fraser, 'An Island Sheiling Song' (Printed, Boosey & Co, [ca. 1928]). With the name and address of former owner (M. MacKeachan, Glasgow) written on the cover.
Two sheets written by the same hand, containing the texts of the songs "Coisich a rùin" (4 stanzas) and "Oganaich dhuinn a rinn m' fhagail" (6 stanzas of 1 line of text and 3 lines of chorus).
Text and music of two songs sung at competition by Catriona M. Maclean, Woodside School, Glasgow, in ca. 1966: "Fhir an leadain thlàth" (beginning 'Fhir an leadain thlàth / Dh'fhàg thu mi fo bhròn') and "Mo rùn geal òg".
Texts of two songs written out by the same hand (but different from above): "Òigfhear òg an òirfhuilt bhuidhe", beg. 'So a' bhliadhna dh'fhàg mi dubhach, / Huraibh ì, huraibh ì, ì ho ro hó' (5 stanzas) and "Leis a' bhàta dhubh dharaich", beginning 'Guma slàn do na gillean / Thug an linne mu thuath orr' (6 stanzas of 2 lines with 3-line chorus).
