Correspondence and papers of General Sir Thomas Hislop, Baronet, (1764-1843), and of his wife, Emma, daughter of Hugh Elliot, diplomatist., 1783-1882, undated.
Scope and Contents
General Sir Thomas Hislop's daughter Emma Eleanor Elizabeth married the 3rd Earl of Minto. Most of Sir Thomas Hislop's papers concern business and financial affairs, and his military career, in particular the Deccan Prize Case. But his general correspondence also includes a series of letters from the Venezuelan revolutionist, Francisco de Miranda, with whom Hislop had been connected in the West Indies. The papers of Lady Hislop contain much family material, including a substantial run of correspondence of her brother, Admiral Sir Charles Elliot (1801-1875), diplomatist and colonial governor, and of his wife, Clara Genevieve.
