Private correspondence of the 2nd Earl of Minto on general naval affairs following his resignation from the Admiralty., 1841-1856.
Sub-Series
Identifier: MSS.12067-12068
Scope and Contents
The 2nd Earl of Minto was expected to return to his old office in 1846, and appears to have been offered it by Lord John Russell, but he disclaimed the Admiralty in favour of Lord Auckland (see MS.12068, folios 24-73), and joined the Cabinet as Lord Privy Seal. His interest in naval affairs continued, and is reflected in correspondence with officers and Admiralty officials.
