Scope and Contents
These are chiefly school exercise books, used by Hugh MacDiarmid to draft poems and prose pieces, to make notes from his reading, and for other jottings. They include a draft introduction and part of ‘The Birlinn of Clanranald’, 1934, (MSS.27089-27090'); a reply to a review of ‘The golden treasury of Scottish poetry’, 1940 (MS.27102); and parts of the introduction and chapters 6 and 9 of ‘Lucky Poet’, 1943 (MSS.27106-27113). MS.27141 consists of translations of poems by the Bulgarian poets Botev and Smirnenski.
