Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) 'Gift to the Queen', a play for radio on the 16th century poet, Alexander Scott (folio 1). Written in 1948, it was broadcast in 1949. (ii) “The Rape o' Helen”, 1950 (folio 20). A shortened version under the title 'The Last Time I saw Paris' was published in the ‘Saltire Review’, volume iv (1957), pages 23-36. (iii) ‘Untrue Thomas’, 1951 (folio 36). The play was broadcast in 1952 and published by the ‘Caledonian Press’ in the same year. (iv) 'Cutty Sark', 1951 (folio 44). Written as a play for radio and broadcast in 1952, this was later adapted to become the third act of “Tam o Shanter's Tryst”, produced by the Citizens' Theatre, Glasgow, in 1955. (v) 'Cutty Sark', undated (folio 52). Acts I and II of the stage play, “Tam o Shanter's Tryst”. (vi) 'Beauty and the Brain', 1955 (folio 67). The play was produced by the Citizens' Theatre, Glasgow, under the title 'Truth to Tell', 1958. (vii) ‘Shetland Yarn’, 1953 (folio 91). The play was published in London, 1954. (viii) 'The Monsters', 1961 (folio 97). A science fiction play in English, written for radio and broadcast in 1962.
