Scope and Contents
Materials and notes relating to Scottish prehistory, history, and genealogy (folios 1, 208), portraits (folio 143), and coins and medals (folio 185). They include some historical documents (originals and contemporary or later copies)—deeds relating to the College Kirk of Dunbar, 1342, and the Swintons of that Ilk, 1401; a sheet, apparently torn from a letter-book, being contemporary copies of letters of James VI, [1594-?1595/1596]; a copy of a letter of Charles I, appointing Sir Lewis Stewart, of Strabroc, Justice-General of Scotland, undated; a modern list of books and pamphlets relating to Scotland printed at the time of the Rebellion; ‘The Scots Youth Instructed’, etc. (probably a copy of a pamphlet on the Union); and complaints against the Government given in to a Committee of the Associate Presbytery at Burntisland, 1738.
