The correspondence includes, with family letters and letters alluding to Sir Walter Scott, a copy of correspondence between Sir Thomas Dick Lauder, Scott, and Archibald Constable on the proposed publication of Fountainhall’s writings by the Bannatyne Club, 1823 (folio 94); a letter of J M W Turner on the illustrations to Scott’s 'Provincial antiquities', 1828 (folio 104); letters and papers on the erection of a national memorial to Scott, 1832 (folio 114); and “Extracts from L’Histoire militaire de Louis le Grand”, in the autograph of David Hume, undated (folio 142).
