Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows. (i) Two papers on Sir Isaac Newton's theories of motion, 1777, undated. (Folio 1.) The beginning of the first is closely related to ‘Antient metaphysics’, i, page 251, and what follows. Monboddo numbers 162, 48. (ii) Part of a paper on individual philosophers, undated (Folio 26.) It deals with the theories of Newton, Timaeus and Plato. (iii) Two papers on the Pythagoreans, 1770, undated (Folio 38.) Monboddo numbers 31, 21. (iv) 'Of the history of the Epicurean philosophy', undated (Folio 82.) Originally part of a letter. Monboddo number 60. (v) 'Observations on Diogenes Laertius', 1769. (Folio 90.) Monboddo number 96. (vi) 'Of the philosophy of Plotinus', 1783, with later additions. (Folio 100.) Monboddo number 279. (vii) Paper on Xenophon's 'Memorabilia' and 'Symposium', 1796. (Folio 125.) Numbered 301. (vii) Notes on St Cyril's answer to the Emperor Julian, undated. (Folio 147.) Monboddo number 65.
