Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i)-(vi) Harbours (i) Aberdeen, letters and accounts 1830, 1833, and a draft of the section of the ‘Life of Thomas Telford, Civil Engineer, written by himself’ relating to the harbour. (Folio 1.) (ii) Courtown, letters and reports, 1830-1833. See also MS.19978. (Folio 15.) (iii) Dundee, letters, 1860-1861, 1833. (Folio 50.) (iv) London, St Katharine's Dock, correspondence, report, and share certificates, 1825-1830. (Folio 58.) (v) Trinity, letter, 1834. (Folio 89.) (vi) Wapping, memorandum, 1805, concerning docks and lock gates. (Folio 91.) (vii)-(viii) Roads (vii) Glasgow and Carlisle, reports, specifications and letters, 1821, 1833-1834. Much of this is set out as for the relevant section of the appendix to the ‘Life of Thomas Telford, Civil Engineer, written by himself’. (folio 93.) (viii) Report Book, 1830-1831. This material originally formed part of a folio sized notebook, but because of its condition it could not be preserved in that form and is now part of this volume. It includes specifications for the road from Grantown on Spey to Ballindalloch, with details of bridges at Cromdale, Dalvey and Advie, and general specifications for the Glasgow and Carlisle road, with details of the bridge over the Duneaton water. Much of this material appears in the appendix to the ‘Life of Thomas Telford, Civil Engineer, written by himself’. (Folio 146.)
