Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) Rules for a horse race to be run in the Isle of Man to celebrate the birthday of James, Lord Strange, 1697. This race was inaugurated by the Earls of Derby as Lords of Man probably in the mid 17th century. With the ending of the Derby regime in the 18th century the races fell into abeyance. (Folio 1.) (ii) Miscellaneous papers of Charles Hunter, Cadet, of Seaside, 1810-1853, including minutes of the Carse of Cowrie Agricultural Club, 1835, and Report to the Trustees of the Carse of Cowrie Turnpike Road on the probable effect of the Perth to Dundee railway on the road, 1833. (Folio 11.) (iii) Miscellaneous papers of Andrew Hunter, coffee planter, Ceylon, 1863-1866, including appointment of attorney regarding the sale of the St Andrews Club, Nuwara Eliya, 1865, mortgage of the Talawa Kelle estate, 1865, appointment as Justice of the Peace for the Districts of Kandy and Badulla, 1863 and photographs of Ceylon, undated.
