Family letters of the Geddes children., 1897-1916.
Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows.
(i) Letters of Norah, Lady Mears to her father and mother and to her brother, Arthur, 1897-1924. Those to her father include references to landscape gardening which she intended to make her career. (Folio 1.)
(ii) Letters of Alasdair Geddes, circa 1898-1916, including typescripts of some early letters, 1901, undated, to his parents. One letter of 1915 to his father discusses his views on the war in Europe. There are letters from India, Dublin and Ghent when he was working as assistant to his father, noting the progress of the Geddes exhibitions, and also letters from France where he was stationed before his death on active service in 1917. (Folio 37.)
(iii) Letters of Arthur Geddes to his family, 1907-1934. The early letters make reference to his education. (Folio 197.)
