Autograph journal of a tour in the Highlands undertaken by Warren Hastings in 1793 during his impeachment., 1793.
Scope and Contents
Warren Hastings journey began and ended in Edinburgh, and among places visited are Stirling, Perth, Loch Tay, Loch Lomond, Loch Long, Glasgow, Paisley, and Lanark. Hastings is shown as a sensitive tourist, responsive to scenery and architecture. He pays special attention to the standard of food and comfort in inns, and gives some space to commercial and economic observations. Little in the journal relates to his public career.
