Bibliography

The text was first printed (in an anglicised version) in ‘Miscellanea Scotica’ (London, 1710).

This copy of George Buchanan appears to have been made directly from the only known old manuscript, British Library Cotton MS. Calig. C.III, folio 265 - see the edition by P Hume Brown, ‘Vernacular Writings of George Buchanan’ (‘Scottish Text Society’, 1892), pages 37-53. Another copy of the Cotton Manuscript by David Crawford of Drumsoy, in Adv. MS.35.1.1 (i), pages 1-13, was used by Thomas Ruddiman in his edition of Buchanan's ‘Opera Omnia’ (Edinburgh, 1715), volume 1, ad fin., whose text is reproduced by the other editions before Hume Brown.
