Papers concerning Charles Colyear, 2nd Earl of Portmore,, 1717-1761, undated.
Sub-Series
Identifier: MSS.17717-17722
Scope and Contents
On succeeding to the title of 2nd Earl of Portmore, Charles Colyear purchased several farms in Peeblesshire (to the immediate south-east of the Duke of Argyll's property at The Whim), which were leased to Lord Milton. After the latter's death, Portmore asked for the papers to be returned to him (MS.16775, folio 31), but this was clearly not or at least not completely done.
