Correspondence, chiefly of the family of Fletcher of Saltoun, with some of Abernethy, Lords Saltoun., 1590-1719.

 Sub-Series
Identifier: MSS.16501-16504

Scope and Contents

A few of the early letters are of the 8th Lord Saltoun and William Livingston, portioner of Saltoun, but most are of Fletchers, especially Sir Andrew of Innerpeffer (including a long series to his father), Sir George of Restennet, and Sir Robert of Saltoun. From the end of the seventeenth century the correspondence is mainly of Andrew Fletcher, the Patriot (mostly of 1715-1716, published by Irene J Murray, ‘Miscellany of the Scottish History Society’, volume x, 1965, pages 145-173), and his brother Henry; but also of Sir David Dalrymple, Lord Advocate, 1709-1711 (see also MSS.17723-17724), and of Henry's son, Andrew, later Lord Milton (as a student in Leiden, in London, and as cashier of excise).
