List of the printed books (amongst which are recorded a few modern manuscripts), illuminated manuscripts, and paintings owned by William Finlay Watson, bookseller, Edinburgh, which he intended to bequeath to the National Galleries for Scotland., 1881-1882.
Scope and Contents
At the end of the list (folio 52) is a statement signed by his executors (his sisters and brother-in-law) certifying that the Trustees of the National Galleries had selected the illuminated manuscripts (some of which are MSS.7122-7149) and the paintings. The list was compiled after Watson's death and written out by Alexander Dowell, auctioneer, Edinburgh, who recorded the Trustees' refusal of the printed books and their acceptance of the illuminated manuscripts and paintings at folios 38 verso, 40 verso, and 51 verso.
