Elizabeth Haldane wrote to her mother, Mary Elizabeth Haldane, daily, sometimes as often as thrice daily, when absent from home. Her mother replied daily and, as both series are well preserved, they form a useful, integrated sequence for those periods when mother and daughter were living apart.
