Scope and Contents
Folios 1-2 : letter, 31 October 1859, of Alfred Tennyson to John Murray III thanking him for having sent a copy of the "Quarterly Review";
folios 3-4 : letter, 26 October 1886, of Alfred Tennyson to John Murray III thanking him for the gift of a set of casts of coins of the
twelve Caesars.
Folio 5 : marked proof, ? 1862 or before, of Alfred Tennyson`s poem, "Helen`s Tower". The poem was written at the
request of Lord Dufferin for the folly he had erected on his estate at Clandeboye, Northern Ireland, in honour of his mother,
Selina Hay. The proof includes an annotation in the hand of Lord Dufferin at the foot of the folio recto : "Proof corrected by
Mr. Tennyson : some more matter to be supplied:". At the head of the folio recto is an annotation in the hand of John Murray
III : "Revise - along with rest - when received from Author. JM".
