Letters, 1861-1869, of Philip Stanhope to John Murray III, with related letters and papers. They concern works of his published by Murray, including “Life of the Right Honourable William Pitt”, “Miscellanies”, and “History of England comprising the reign of Queen Anne until the peace of Utrecht”. He advises on Murray travel handbooks, and there is also some discussion of politics, and of his reading, with comments on manuscripts and papers sent to him for criticism. The letters are arranged in chronological order.
