Correspondence of William Skeoch Cumming., 1887-1928, undated.
Scope and Contents
The correspondence chiefly concerns William Skeoch Cumming's work as an illustrator, painter, and designer of tapestries, but it also reflects his interest in Highland history and dress. There are a few of Cumming's own letters, written while on active service during the Boer War, and some from Pittendrigh Macgillivray, the sculptor. There is also a series of letters from the Marquess of Bute concerning the establishment of the Dovecot Tapestry Studio at Corstorphine and the effect on it of the 1914-1918 War, and discussing the designs of the tapestries themselves. The correspondence also concerns the Scottish Pageant of 1908, and Cumming's financial difficulties.
