The letter-book, which was apparently written up by a clerk, covers the years 1802-1808, when Lachlan Mackintosh was operating an agency-house in Calcutta, at first on his own account and later in partnership with his younger brother Aeneas, John Williamson Fulton, and Robert McClintock. The letters deal with business and personal affairs.
