Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows:

(i) copies, 1816, 1819, of documents, 1499-1569, then in possession of Sir George Abercromby, 4th Baronet of Birkenbog, at Forglen House (folio 1) and copies, 1796, of documents, 1324, 1544, then in possession of William Rose of Montcoffer (folio 48), relating to the house of Carmelite friars at Banff;

(ii) a letter, 1789, of the minister of Cullen with a copy (in another hand), circa 1804, of a document, 1455, relating to St Mary`s parish church, Cullen (folio 60);

(iii) copies, 1815, ?1819, mostly by Hutton, of documents concerning properties in the county of Banff, 1242, 1408-1569 (folio 66);

(iv) copies, 1816, of documents, 1549-1587, then in possession of Sir Archibald Grant, 4th Baronet of Monymusk relating to the priory of Monymusk (folio 97);

(v) copies, on leaves watermarked 1811, of documents, ?early 14th century, 1542-1596, 1637-1661, several of which are described as in the possession of ‘the late William Rose’, relating to the abbey of Deer and lands belonging to it (folio 130).
