Scope and Contents

Collection contains a parcel of papers of Dr. Joan McMichael, specifically concerning her time living, training, and working in Edinburgh as a medical practitioner. Enclosed letters between her son Jonathan Carritt and WGML librarian Audrey Canning record his desire that this section of his mother's papers be returned to Scotland (2008).

Papers include her collected pamphlets and leaflets; correspondence and notes concerning matters of interest including Scottish healthcare; housing; education; women's rights; the Spanish Civil War; the Irish freedom and socialist movements; the International Council of Women; and the Edinburgh Women Citizens Association. Collection also includes meeting minutes of the China Relief Coordination Committee (February-April 1938).
