Notebook was begun on 25 February 1948 and completed in January 1951 possibly. Simon writes from both ends of the notebook, and includes some brief illustrations. Content may also contain references to the novel 'The Golden Hand'. File also includes a newspaper centrefold (29 January 1950); loose typescript pages of annotated text, although the series is incomplete; and a letter from Leonard M. Mayer, with news of his upcoming marriage (22 July 1950). [This notebook was housed with several others, all of which appear to relate to the same writing project, a proposed book entitled at any one time as 'House of Dreamers', 'The Human Quality', 'House of Strangers' or 'The Life Behind the Stone.' Simon published a book entitled 'The Past Masters' in 1953, which was subsequently published as 'The House of Strangers' in the United States.]
