Notebook was begun on 3 August 1955 and completed on 18 August 1956. Annotation on the inner front cover reads as 'The Sable Coat. New review after over two month's pause. Begun on 3 August 1955.' Manuscript editorial notes appear to concern character development, sample dialogue, plot, and book structure. Simon writes from both ends of the notebook. File also includes loose pages of manuscript notes on what appears to be a draft playscript. Dated as 18 August 1956, the play itself is untitled, but the characters have the following initials Z, V, A, K, and P. This draft is an 'attempt at Scene 2, Act 3.'
