Miscellaneous legal papers., 1700-1730.
Scope and Contents
Including: the certificate of admission of Sir John, 3rd Baronet, to the Faculty of Advocates (Ch.4334); burgess-tickets, mostly in favour of Sir John; the act of admission of Sir John to the Royal Company of Archers (Ch.4356); passport, in Russian, issued from St Petersburg (Ch.4370); depositions and information regarding riots in Glasgow (Ch.4371-4373); proclamation, signed by Townshend and sent to Charles Erskine as Solicitor General at the beginning of the new reign, ordering prayers to be said for George II and his Queen (Ch.4382). Other papers trace the stages of the purchase from Sir John by his brother Charles, later Lord Tinwald, of the estate of Tinwald; and, in general, the later papers in this section are more concerned with Charles Erskine, either as a private individual, or in his official capacity, than with Sir John.
