Biography

Elizabeth 'Betty' McIntyre was Scottish Secretary of the National Union of Hosiery and Knitwear Workers; a member of the Union's National Executive Committee; elected as a member of the STUC General Council in 1968, rising to Vice-Chairman in 1972 and later Chairman in 1973. She was also only the second woman to act as President of the STUC Congress in 1974.

Scope and Contents

Collection contains one folder of reproduced press cuttings, images, and articles concerning the life and work of Betty McIntyre as a leading figure in the Scottish trade union movement. Included is a copy of a letter from the principal private secretary of the Prime Minister notifying McIntyre of her OBE award in 1975, and a copy of her President's address to the STUC Congress in 1974.
