Biography

Born in the Gorbals, Glasgow, William Hodge (b.1894) was a factory worker, and a conscientious objector during World War I. He moved to Dundee in circa 1911 for work. He was drafted to military service soon after but refused to comply and for this he was court-martialled and imprisoned. He served time in Perth Military Prison, in Calton Prison Edinburgh, Wakefield Prison Yorkshire, and finally at the work camp at Loch Awe in the Highlands. He subsequently became an engineering worker. In 1925 he married Mabel Lillian Mounsey.
