Guy Aldred (1886-1963) was an anarchist, Communist, journalist, and editor, who established a number of printing presses, notably the Bakunin Press in London (1907) and the Strickland Press in Glasgow (1939–1968). He was a prolific writer and published numerous pamphlets, books, and journals on anarchism, socialism and alternative politics. Of these periodicals, five were Glasgow-based anarchist titles, namely The Herald of Revolt, The Spur, The Commune, The Council, and The Word, on which he worked closely with Ethel MacDonald, a fellow anarchist and activist.
